How to Support Your Local Restaurants

In the wake of COVID-19, every person and every business is being impacted right now. It’s a time of uncertainty for all of us, and the hospitality industry is being particularly affected by the situation.

The reality is that many establishments and their employees will be affected by reduced opening hours, and in some circumstances, the need to temporarily close. Here at Quandoo, we’re working hard to support our restaurant partners during this tough time.

We also want to help our diners by keeping them informed about the current climate and what this means for their dining out options.

Restaurants, bars and food outlets worldwide are struggling, and it’s up to us – the foodies, the gourmet enthusiasts, the caffeine junkies – to help out in whatever way we can. Now is a time for support and community.

So whether it’s getting fresh bread from your local bakery, ordering a delivery package from the nearby wine bar, or getting take-out pizza from your favourite neighbourhood eatery, Quandoo encourages you to keep ordering from establishments who are open.

Here are some ways you can help:

Order take-out and delivery

We all know the hospitality industry is full of those with bright ideas and many restaurateurs are getting creative by offering new take-out and delivery options. There are also many cool campaigns to help restaurants that have been initiated by various organisations.

While your usual takeaway joint might have always had these services, chances are there are other places you can now also support.

Many restaurants, cafés and bakeries are setting up options – pick-up, take-out, curbside, contactless delivery, you name it – which all adhere to current safety recommendations from their local authorities.

We recommend checking in with your local restaurants online or over the phone and seeing what they offer.

Share news on social media

Sharing information on social media is a great way to encourage people to keep supporting the hospitality industry.

Is your local café now doing coffee and pastry home deliveries? Tag them on your Instagram. Is the modern European restaurant now offering cook-at-home packages? Spread the word on Facebook. Is that delicious pizzeria still open? Tell your workmates on Slack.

Considering the current climate, now is the time to spread some positive messaging more than ever. You can also tag @quandoo_uk on Instagram and we will share any news on our channels!

Buy a gift voucher

Another way to show your support is by buying a restaurant gift voucher. Many eateries offer vouchers which can be used within 1 year of purchase, or sometimes longer.

This kind of purchase not only financially supports the restaurant through this tough time, but it also shows faith you want to see them back on their feet as soon as possible.

And when things have settled down, dine out again! It’s important to boost the small businesses around you.

This will encourage establishments to extend their opening hours again, rehire staff and get restaurateurs and chefs back doing what they love – cooking for guests and offering a dining experience to remember.

In the meantime, we’ll be sharing more ideas on how you can help local businesses, so keep checking in for updates.

We encourage everyone to think about their safety as number one priority right now. Keep yourself informed and always follow the recommended precautions, as advised by the World Health Organization and your local government.
